"Back then, I couldn’t really call myself a collector yet, but I had a deep passion for magazines. There has always been something captivating about their imagery, their layout, their design, and even their scent. I used to visit the FNAC store in Madrid. Back then, you could spend hours reading and leafing through magazines without anyone ever bothering you. And it was right there that I saw Angelina Jolie on her very first Vogue cover. I still remember the clash between that cover and the "bad girl" image I had of her after reading the Rolling Stone feature from the summer of 2001."
"Every day, the internet makes it easier to access products from all over the world. In the summer of 2013, I didn't have a single Thai magazine in my collection. I knew about some of them, and the images I had found on the internet were saved in my "missing magazines" folder, but the last thing I expected was that during my first visit to the Chatuchak market in Bangkok, this magazine would be right on top of an endless stack full of publications. I already had a couple of Cleo magazines from the Australian edition, but I didn't even know there was a Thai version—let alone that Angelina had appeared on the cover of its 2003 issue."
"If you are a collector, this won't catch you by surprise. But if you aren't, you might not know that a fundamental part of growing your collection is connecting with what 20 years ago were called "penpals. Thanks to Facebook groups related to magazine trading, I met Lisa. Lisa was a girl from Taiwan, also an Angelina fan, whose father owned a company that worked with shipping carriers. I used to chat with her, and on several occasions, we exchanged Angelina magazines. This is one of the first Asian magazines in my collection (thanks to her). That also turned out to be quite a discovery for me. To this day, I still trade magazines with other fans of other actors or singers."
"No matter how much time you spend hunting down a specific magazine, sometimes it feels like an impossible mission, and you assume you'll never add it to your collection. But just when you least expect it, the magic happens. One day, Judit—a dear friend from Hungary, fellow collector, and huge Angelina fan—emailed me out of the blue after years of no contact. She was moving to the Canary Islands and couldn't take her entire Angelina collection with her. She wanted me to have it. Without a second thought, I said yes. I rearranged my schedule to meet her on her way to Gran Canaria at a meeting point 400 km away from home. The result? A trip that was more than worth every single kilometer. Meeting Judit in person was an absolute treat, and I will always be grateful to her for thinking of me. Among all the treasures that joined my archive thanks to her was this cover—one of those I thought I'd never get. Never say never."
"I had only been living in London for a month, and I had lost a bit of interest in my Angelina magazine collection. Or perhaps, I had simply stopped prioritizing it. One day, while wandering through Soho, I stumbled into a shop packed with international magazines. My obsession might have faded, but I was still fascinated by places like that. There it was, sitting on a shelf. I guess the rush of adrenaline, mixed with the uncertainty and stress of starting a new life in a new city, turned finding this magazine into a memory I’ll never forget."
"By the summer of 2003, I was already 1000% immersed in collecting. I spent hours visiting stores with press sections and foreign newspaper kiosks. I even peeked into paper recycling bins just in case I could rescue something featuring Angelina. At the time, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life had just been released, and there wasn't a single publication that wasn't talking about her. If there is one thing I truly miss, it's that feeling of stumbling upon a rare foreign magazine at a kiosk by complete surprise, discovering its existence right then and there. That’s exactly what this magazine is about: an afternoon of hunting through the kiosks at Puerta del Sol in Madrid. And there it was!"
